BODY / IMAGE / TEXT: ANALYSIS OF FORMS OF BIOGRAPHICAL IN CULTURE

Every image comes to us as a result of a specific process that connects us (in our minds, sensuality, body) with what is beyond us.  A birth of an image can be triggered by something external (event, the melody , the shadow on the wall) and "internal" (recall, sudden pain, the sound in us, our own voice, sounding in us "silently").

This leads us further - to the nature of the image itself.

We consider the ability of imagination in empirical respect as "human power" inherent to a man before he became a subject. If you focus on this thought, then it could be said that a person begins as a man at the place and at the time when he presents himself and the imagination awakens.

We link the nature of the image to the topologic nature of memory, which is embodied in the process of remembering.

Historical/cultural oblivion initiated by social and political institutions may, on the contrary, enhance the process of individual remembrance and the desire to preserve it. The bearer of such autobiographic/individual memory acts as a scriptor, preparing the process of retention of an individual memory in the generation`s memory and incorporation of the generation`s memory into the culture`s memory.

Individual experience stipulates the character of cultural memory formation, which, in its turn, makes us consider the role of individual memory in a group`s memory formation and retention of this memory in the culture`s memory.

The modern culture has the material that obviously embodies these processes. These are various types of biographical writing: diaries, memoirs, notebooks, or an autobiographic novel. The analysis of literary texts may confirm the processes we are considering and, at the same time, may encourage scientists to do research into character of the link between autobiographical memory, a generation`s memory, and their retention by a culture`s memory: ”Kolima stories” by Varlaam Shalamov, “Is This a Man” by Primo Levi, “Memories of the War” by Nikolai Nikulin (the memoirs were written in 1975 and published in 2007), autobiographical novels by Tamara Petkevich (“Life is an Unpaired Boot”, 2015), and Alexander Chudakov (“Mist Falls on to the Old Steps”, 2016) etc.

Why did the author decide to write this novel? Research into memory problems leads us to the necessity to research the nature of image.
